Hereford and the Brecon Bacons 2022

Hereford and the Brecon Bacons 2022

Explore Herefordshire by coach

In the midst of crops and cattle – the area has some of the country’s most fertile land – is the historic city of Hereford on the River Wye. And now that there is a suitable hotel in the city to stay in, it is the right time to base a new tour there, having not been able to run it in 2021. Being close to Wales as well, enjoy the scenery of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons too.

Journey west to Gloucestershire, then Herefordshire. 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast at the Three Counties Hotel.

Time for the varied attractions of the city. Close to the Wye is Hereford’s Gothic Cathedral, famed for the Mappa Mundi and the Library. The Black & White House Museum will give an insight into Jacobean life: the Cider Museum that’s self-explanatory!

B, D

Hay-on-Wye is a most pleasant little town for some sightseeing this morning, having travelled by way of the Golden Valley with its views towards the Black Mountains. There is a huge number of (mostly) second-hand bookshops and the town is home to an important festival of literature and the arts in May each year. Plenty of cafes and pubs too. From there to the Brecon Beacons and the former county town of Brecknock, Brecon, to enjoy the views and see things like the Cathedral and the Regimental Museum.

B, D

Our excursion takes in some of the ‘Black & White Villages’ round Pembridge followed by the main sightseeing stop in Ludlow. Set in a bend of the River Teme and round a magnificent castle, it is one of England’s finest surviving medieval towns. There are over 500 Tudor, Elizabethan and Georgian buildings

B, D

Pretty ride through Ledbury, Tewkesbury and Stow-on-the-Wold. Then home

B=Breakfast, D=Dinner

THREE COUNTIES HOTEL . Superior hotel on the edge of the city. Bedrooms have all the usual facilities. The restaurant claims to use the finest local ingredients, including, of course, Herefordshire Beef. A particularly attractive feature of the hotel is Mundi’s Bar, named after the famous map in Hereford Cathedral, with its views of its pond and garden.
