A revised tour for 2022, now staying in Valkenburg, Don’t miss the market in the Velvet Caves. Also to Aachen, where the brightly lit Christmas market is set around the cathedral, will take up one day. Another day will be to Düsseldorf for an exciting mix of Christmas markets and shopping delights.

Day 1 Monday
Ferry crossing to Calais, then a drive through Belgium to Holland’s Limburg province and the resort town of Valkenburg. 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast at Hotel Walram.
DDay 2 Tuesday
Valkenburg, where the special attraction is the ‘Fluweelengrot’, the Velvet Cave. The popular Christmas Market (small admission charge) has murals, sculptures and a romantic chapel, together with secret escape passages of great importance in wartime. Plenty to see and do elsewhere in this lovely holiday town.
B, DDay 3 Wednesday
Spend most of the day in Aachen, the city of Charlemagne, where the centre will present an array of colourful stalls and a formidable selection of decorations, toys, foods, beer and gluhwein. There are always happy crowds and a carnival atmosphere.
B, DDay 4 Thursday
We are visiting Düsseldorf, a great city on the Rhine, famed for its Christmas Markets, found on the main shopping streets. It is also renowned for the “Sternchenmarkt” (“Little Star Market”) at the Stadtbrückchen, idyllically located in the courtyard of the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus. It has its own illumination, crystals that break the light into thousands of colours and sparkling stars.
