Our first excursion covers the local area, the Devon Riviera, though the resorts have not lost their individual identities. Contrast Brixham's fishing harbour, Paignton's sands, Torquay's palms and luxuriant vegetation, Babbacombe's secluded coves. There are opportunities to visit some of the attractions as well. For instance the Model Village and 'Bygones' in Babbacombe. Kent's Cavern and Torre Abbey in Torquay, Oldway Mansion and the Zoo in Paignton, plus the South Devon Railway with steam trains offering great views of Torbay.

See the Devon countryside with its rich red soil as we drive to Totnes, a very old and very attractive market town on the River Dart. Then to Dartmouth, the important sailing centre where the Royal Naval College is located. We continue to Slapton Sands and Kingsbridge before returning.

A full day out with much to see. Through the resorts of Teignmouth and Dawlish to Exeter. Sightseeing in the city centre for one of England's beautiful Cathedrals. On to wild, bleak Dartmoor by way of Moretonhampstead: see the view from Haytor Rocks and have tea in Widecombe-in-the-Moor.
