A very special day with a knowledgeable guide. Ferry crossing to Calais, then to the area round Albert - the rivers Somme and Ancre - where one of the most horrific battles in history began in July 1916. On the so-called 'Circuit of Remembrance' our visits include the Newfoundland Memorial and trenches at Beaumont Hamel, the impressive British Memorial at Thiepval with the names of over 70,000 who died in the battle and have no known grave, also the South African Memorial at Longueval. Return ferry crossing late evening.
