Built beside the Thames, Hampton Court dates from the sixteenth century when Cardinal Wolsey gave it to Henry VIII. The palace is magnificent to see, having been extended, altered, repaired and restored during its 500 year history. The gardens are no less an attraction and the famous maze should not be missed when it is open during the summer months.
