Set on two islands in a lake, the castle has been described
as the `loveliest castle in the world' with over 900 years of
history and 500 acres of glorious parkland. The site of a 9th
century Saxon manor was rebuilt by the Normans and was a
favourite country palace for medieval kings and queens for more
than 300 years. It has been lovingly restored in recent times
and is beautifully furnished.
