Journey on the Mid-Hants Railway.

Admission to Monkey World.

Day 1 Sunday

Into Hampshire for the 10 mile railway journey from medieval Alresford. It is ‘over the Alps’ as large, ex-Southern, locomotives tackle the gradients to Alton, another pleasant market town. On the route Ropley is the centre for preservation and restoration work and Four Marks, at 600 feet, is the highest station in southern England. Overnight with dinner, bed & breakfast in top resort, Bournemouth.

Day 2 Monday

To Monkey World near Wareham for an included visit. This hugely popular Rescue Centre assists governments to stop the smuggling of primates and many that have suffered abuse and neglect have been rehabilitated into natural living groups. Currently about 250 are being cared for. Leave in the afternoon to drive home.

B=Breakfast, D=Dinner

The Mid Hants Railway between Alresford and Alton, historically important for transporting watercress to London. Powerful locomotives cope with the steep gradients. A night in Bournemouth before journeying through Dorset on the second day to the remarkable, and deservedly popular, Monkey World, which has become a regular destination in our programme.

In the West Cliff area of Bournemouth, the hotel is within easy reach of beaches, parks and shops. It is a Victorian townhouse which has had over £3 million spent on refurbishments in recent years. All bedrooms are en suite with tea/coffee making, hairdryers and flatscreen TVs.
