Rediscover the Austrian Tyrol 2018

Day 1 Wednesday

Channel crossing to Calais and from there to Germany’s Rhineland for dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 2 Thursday

Not too long after our lunchtime stop, the Alps come into view as we make for the Inn Valley, arriving for a welcome drink and 5 nights half board at Hotel Krone in Oberperfuss. A drink with dinner every evening is included.

Day 3 Friday

Excursion to Innsbruck. Enjoy a guided tour of the Old Town with the famous Golden Roof, Maria Theresia Street, the Wilten Basilica and St. James Cathedral. During the tour, take the funicular ascent to the Olympic ski jump on the Bergisel overlooking the city. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city and the Inn Valley. Afterwards enjoy a guided tour of the wonderful Ambras Castle including the Spanish Room, which is among the most beautiful rooms of the Renaissance. Return to the hotel for dinner and a bowling evening afterwards.

Day 4 Saturday

Scenic tour of the Ötz Valley. The Ötztal is Tyrol’s longest valley - with breathtaking scenery all the way. Arriving in Umhausen, continue to the Stuiben Falls, which are with their total drop of 150m, the most impressive waterfalls of Tyrol (walk 45 minutes, bring good shoes). Afternoon at leisure with coffee and cake at the hotel. Dinner followed by a Tyrolean folklore evening at the hotel.

Day 5 Sunday

Along Inn Valley to Jenbach and join the original Achenseebahn cog railway. These are some of the oldest steam engines in the world still in use. The train winds its way up above the Inn Valley to the shores of Lake Achen, the largest alpine lake in the Tyrol. Why not take a boat cruise, or enjoy a stroll in Pertisau? Continue on to Pill for a guided tour of the Schnapps museum with a small Schnapps seminar and tasting in the vaulted cellar. Return to your hotel for dinner and a bingo evening.

Day 6 Monday

Guided tour of Neuschwanstein Castle, the most famous castle of Ludwig II. Built in 1869, the building is inspired by ancient Germanic legends and has been the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom in Florida. Afterwards continue to the Baroque Church of Wies with time at leisure for the visit. Then head over to the village of Oberammergau, famous for its Passion Play - theatrical performances of the Passion of Christ.

Days 7 -8 Tue - Wed

Homeward with dinner, bed & breakfast at a convenient hotel in Germany and an early evening ferry from Calais on the last day.
